10. Team K snaps the ball at Team R’s 40 yard line and punts. During the kick, R39 clips at his 26 yard line. K30 reaches across the plane of his goal line into the end zone and bats the ball backward and out of bounds at the four yard line. (a) Double foul, replay the down.
(b) Team R may decline Team K’s foul and retain the football by having its clipping penalty administered; first and 10 for Team R at its two yard line.
(c) Award Team R a touchback.
(d) K30’s batting in the end zone is a violation whose privileges are not canceled by acceptance of a penalty.

Don Simmon:
I'm going to just give this a stab in the dark here. I don't think it is an illegal bat because rule 6-5-6 exception states:
"K may catch, touch, muff or bat a scrimmage kick in flight beyond the neutral zone if no player or R is in position to catch the ball."
I think this applies to the above question, but I see no answer to strictly speak of the clip. Any ideas?

ANSWER- c
Don, the ball was already dead when Team K touched it. The result of the play is a touchback. The clipping penalty has post-scrimmage enforcement and is enforced from the 20 yard line.
RULE REFERENCE : ( 8-5-3a1, 10-4-2b )
